In a swim race you don't have to be in the lead the entire time. I mean you can that is great but sometimes you need to stratigize. Some questions you need to consider: How fast is the person in first going? Answer: Fast. How fast do you need to go? Answer: Faster. In long siatance races you have to pace yourself. Build it up then attack. Almost like a plot line build it up slowly then speed it on up until your reader is sucked into a fast pace plot line then they solve the issue and you speed up to the ending to keep their attention. That is how a connect the two sides of me writing and swimming there is very little to connect them with so that is the only thing I coul think of.
