M is for Movies Murdering Books

The one thing that really bugs me is some movies that are made from books, and they murder the books.

 A couple examples:

Twilight: I know some people really love this movie but I really don't. In fact I really hate this! The acting is bad and they cut out some of my favorite scenes from the book. I also hate how the actors look scary and pained it frustrates me because they should happy and in love!

New Moon: It was better than Twilight but it was not good enough! They also cut out about a million of my favorite lines but, it was half decent and Taylor Laughter was very very hot!

What is your least favorite book based movie?

By the way the Harry Potter movies were actually amazing and showed off the book nicely!

  1. Mine was probably Twilight too. I did not like it at all! Although I did really like New Moon, I thought it was much better. And not because of Taylor's hotness. It just seemed like they had more chemistry, and I loved the Volturi, but then that's one of my favorite things about those books.

  2. I still haven't seen the Twilight movies, nor have I read the books. I've heard opinions that are similar to the ones you've written here, but I've also heard the opposite. Perhaps I should watch the movies before reading the books, lol...

My least favorite book based movie? That's a tough one, but I guess I would have to say Dreamcatcher by Stephen King. I liked the book much more than the movie.

  3. Hmm that's a hard one, but if I think of recent adaptations I would have to agree on Twilight, especially the characters, mainly Bella. She never seemed happy, but instead always moody and depressed. New Moon was better, but still not up to the books.

  4. I liked the Twilight movies but have to agree they didn't come near the books. I have to disagree with you on the HP movies too. I made myself watch them because my husband didn't read the books... but they didn't do justice to the books at all in my opinion. The 3rd movie came close, and I can't remember much about the last one. I am almost always disappointed in movies that are made from books though...

  5. I agree, movies do murder books! I always love the book, more than the movie. I think it is
all the details and our own interpretation that
    influences our opinions. Great post!

  6. Two that disappointed me were Tom Robbins' Even Cowgirls Get the Blues and Flannery O'Connor's Wise Blood Directed by John Huston. I really loved those books but the films just didn't grab me, though I probably should give the second one another chance.

Two adaptations that I think really nailed it were James Dickey's Deliverance and Cormac McCarthey's No Country For Old Man--loved the books and the films captured them perfectly.
