Title: Uglies
Series: It is a series... don't know name
Author(s): Scott Westerfeld
Genre: Science- Fiction
Publisher: Scholastic
Pages: 425
Challenges: 100+ Reading Challenge
Summary: Tally is about to turn sixteen, and she can't wait. Not for her license - for turning pretty. In Tally's world, your sixteenth birthday brings an operation that turns you from a repellent ugly into a stunningly attractive pretty and catapults you into a high-tech paradise where your only job is to have a really great time. In just a few weeks Tally will be there.
But Tally's new friend Shay isn't sure she wants to be pretty. She'd rather risk life on the outside. When Shay runs away, Tally learns about a whole new side of the pretty world - and it isn't very pretty. The authorities offer Tally the worst choice she can imagine: find her friend and turn her in, or never turn pretty at all. The choice Tally makes changes her world forever.
My Thoughts: I really enjoyed Scott Westerfeld's book, written in third person, and since it was a Science Fiction book(which I don't read much of) I really enjoyed it. The characters that were "Uglies" had many different sides that lead to a great emotional story, while the "Pretties" were one dimensional robot type characters which is explains a certain thing I can't name. I loved how, despite the fact it was in third person, the author wrote out Tally's mixed feelings. The author also did a great job in describing everything just enough.
It was a really great book, and I hope to grab the next book Pretties soon!

Great review. I have been wanting to read this book forever and haven't had the time. Too many others on the shelf. I will though!
ReplyDeleteI read this book in high school when it first came out and I fell in love. It's such a great series, too... with the exception of the fourth book which only features Tally and the gang.
ReplyDeleteoh, and I really like the new layout. I didn't even realize until just now... lol.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to read this book, love the concept!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you enjoyed this one...not everyone does. I really liked it. My favorite of the series was actually Pretties the next one. And then there is a companion novel--Extras. That by far was my favorite of the whole group. Hope you enjoy the others too.
