Book Review: The Giver

Title: The Giver
Series: None
Author(s): Lois Lowry
Genre: Science Fiction
Publisher: Houghton Mifflin
Pages: 180
Summary: Given his lifetime assignment at the Ceremony of Twelve, Jonas becomes the receiver of memories shared by only one other in his community and discovers the terrible truth about the society in which he lives.

My Thoughts: Although this book taught me a lesson it was hard to sit through. Listening to the struggles of some weird twisted future society held no interest to me. They never felt anything, good or bad, and people did not love which is what I live for in a book. The fact that the society did not see colors made the book hard to grasp and imagine. Although the book had an interesting idea and concept it was hard to understand because it did not explain itself further. I definitely do not recommend this book because it lacked the sensory details that should make a book come alive.

Book Review: Jessica's Guide To Dating on the Dark Side

Title: Jessica's Guide To Dating on the Dark Side
Series: None
Author(s): Beth Fantaskey
Genre: Fiction/Fantasy

Publisher: Harcourt Children's Book
Pages: 351
Summary: Seventeen-year-old Jessica, adopted and raised in Pennsylvania, learns that she is descended from a royal line of Romanian vampires and that she is betrothed to a vampire prince, who poses as a foreign exchange student while courting her.

My thoughts: This book was very well written but lacked a steady flow and plot line. It had a great ending and an ok middle but you really had to stick with it at the beginning just to get through. Even though it wasn't an enjoyable plot line the writing was magnificent and I had a herd tine putting it down because I didn't want to leave this little town the author had described so well. I thought the book was overall... good. I am positive that the author(who has another book coming out soon) will eventually write a great story that will be 100% enjoyable but I guess we will just have to wait and see.

Book Review: Life as we Knew It

Title: Life As we Knew It
Series: None but accompanying book is Dead and Gone
Author(s): Susan Beth Pfeffer
Genre: Science Fiction
Pages: 337
Summary: Through journal entries sixteen-year-old Miranda describes her family's struggles to survive after a meteor hits the moon, causing worldwide tsunamis, earthquakes, and volcanic eruptions.

My Thoughts: This book was hard to site through because it moved day by day not moment by moment. Throughout the book I questioned what they were doing and what was the point of the entire story. The writing was not great but it had its moments. Due to the fact that it was written through journal entries it didn't have many sensory details, and its conversations were always lacking life. It told you but did not show you which made it boring and dry. I did like the plot line a tiny bit at the beginning but then it lost its lead.
