Summer Break Reading Challenge #4
For the summer break reading challenge #4 we are doing a scavenger hunt!!! I must find the following items on this list:
1. A blog that is new to you that focuses on the same type of literature you do (ex: I read YA so the blog would need to focus on YA).
2. A book that is new to you that another blogger reviewed.
3. A book set in Africa (in your preferred age category, if possible).
4. A book about a human/animal bond (in your preferred age category, if possible).
5. A book trailer for a book you want to read.
6. A book with a color in the title (in your preferred age category, if possible).
7. A blog that is new to you that is dedicated to a certain genre (ex: only books about vampires, only historical fiction, only urban fantasy, etc.)
8. A book blog maintained by a librarian.
9. A book blog maintained by a teacher.
10. The title of an upcoming book by an author you like (provide details - title, release date, synopsis).
Here is what I found:
2. Over at The Lady Critic's Library there was a review for a book titled Bitten by Kelley Armstrong.
4. The only thing that comes off the top of my head is The Golden Compass which I haven't read... but I saw the movie.
6. I guess the book I did counts above because Sister's Red has the word Red in it!
7. I found this great blog called Suburban Vampire that looks very dedicated to vampires!
8. The Book Jacket is maintained by a librarian.
9. Confessions of the Un- Published is maintained by a teacher.
10. I am flipping out because Crescendo by Becca Fitzpatrick is coming out November 16th!!!!!!!!
Here is everything you need to know:
Nora should have know her life was far from perfect. Despite starting a relationship with her guardian angel, Patch (who, title aside, can be described anything but angelic), and surviving an attempt on her life, things are not looking up. Patch is starting to pull away and Nora can't figure out if it's for her best interest or if his interest has shifted to her arch-enemy Marcie Millar. Not to mention that Nora is haunted by images of her father and she becomes obsessed with finding out what really happened to him that night he left for Portland and never came home.
The farther Nora delves into the mystery of her father's death, the more she comes to question if her Nephilim blood line has something to do with it as well as why she seems to be in danger more than the average girl. Since Patch isn't answering her questions and seems to be standing in her way, she has to start finding the answers on her own. Relying too heavily on the fact that she has a guardian angel puts Nora at risk again and again. But can she really count on Patch or is he hiding secrets darker than she can even imagine?
There you go!

Movie Madness
I have watched two very great moving(in different ways) movies. Here are my thoughts on them:
The first movie is Remember Me:
No mater what everyone says Robert Pattinson is beyond handsome!!! This movie made me cry until I was to sad to program, and was screaming at the world for being horrible!(Not joking I woke up my friends my who was two stories above us!!!) But it did carry the great message to live your life as if it were about to end, and do everything with a burning passion.
But, still.... so sad.... so depressing..... sooooo sad.... okay now I'm crying thinking about it. It was one of those movies that.... oh just watch it I can't put this into coherent words.
Here is the trailer:
(Hope that works!)
The other movie:

Invictus
This movie was more of an uplifting movie, and I did not cry. Needless to say you should still watch it because it has a good message, and a great true story behind it!
Here is the trailer:
You should all watch them!

Book Review: Graceling
Title: Graceling
Series: The Seven Trilliums Trilogy
Author(s): Kristen Cashore
Genre: Fantasy
Publisher: Harcourt Children's Book
Pages: 471
Summary: Katsa has been able to kill a man with her bare hands since she was eight — she’s a Graceling, one of the rare people in her land born with an extreme, and in her case horrifying, skill. As niece of the king, she should be able to live a life of privilege, but Graced as she is with killing, she is forced to work as the king’s thug. When she first meets Prince Po, Graced with combat skills, Katsa has no hint of how her life is about to change. She never expects to become Po’s friend. She never expects to learn a new truth about her own Grace — or about a terrible secret that lies hidden far away... a secret that could destroy all seven kingdoms with words alone.
My Thoughts: I read this a while back, and have not reviewed it yet... so the details could be a little wrong. Needless to say I loved the entire book, from Po and Katsa's strange twisted relationship to Kristen Cashore's flawless writing. This book was different from many YA books but in a good way. The far away made up land was actually believable. I loved this book way to much, and can't wait to finish out this series!
Overall Rating: 5/5

Summer Break Reading Challenge #1
For the first Summer Break Reading Challenge you have to list your summer reading goals! This could be quiet the post.. lots of books to read!
Hex Hall by Rachel Hawkins Three years ago, Sophie Mercer discovered that she was a witch. It's gotten her into a few scrapes. Her non-gifted mother has been as supportive as possible, consulting Sophie's estranged father-an elusive European warlock-only when necessary. But when Sophie attracts too much human attention for a prom-night spell gone horribly wrong, it's her dad who decides her punishment: exile to Hex Hall, an isolated reform school for wayward Prodigium, a.k.a. witches, faeries, and shapeshifters. By the end of her first day among fellow freak-teens, Sophie has quite a scorecard: three powerful enemies who look like supermodels, a futile crush on a gorgeous warlock, a creepy tagalong ghost, and a new roommate who happens to be the most hated person and only vampire on campus. Worse, Sophie soon learns that a mysterious predator has been attacking students, and her only friend is the number-one suspect. As a series of blood-curdling mysteries starts to converge, Sophie prepares for the biggest threat of all: an ancient secret society determined to destroy all Prodigium, especially her.
Pretty Little Liars by Sarah Shepard
Everyone has something to hide—especially high school juniors Spencer, Aria, Emily, and Hanna.
Spencer covets her sister's boyfriend. Aria's fantasizing about her English teacher. Emily's crushing on the new girl at school. Hanna uses some ugly tricks to stay beautiful.
But they've all kept an even bigger secret since their friend Alison vanished.
How do I know? Because I know everything about the bad girls they were, the naughty girls they are, and all the dirty secrets they've kept. And guess what? I'm telling.
The DevouringWhen Reggie finds an old journal and reads about the Vours, supernatural creatures who feast on fear and attack on the eve of the winter solstice, she assumes they are just the musings of some lunatic author. But soon, they become a terrifying reality when she begins to suspect that her timid younger brother might be one of their victims.
Risking her life and her sanity, Reggie enters a living nightmare to save the people she loves. Can she devour own her fears before they devour her?
Bone-chilling, terrifying, thrilling...what are you waiting for?
The Luxe by Anna GodbersenA big, sumptuous tale of catty girls, dark secrets and windswept romance unfurls in this compulsively readable novel of late-19th-century New York City socialites. Godbersen weaves a tenuous web of deceit, backstabbing and pretense that follows four teens: Elizabeth Holland, a prim and proper lady of old-money society, is betrothed to one man, though furtively loves another; Henry Schoonmaker, a debauched playboy who must marry Elizabeth or be disinherited; Diana Holland, Elizabeth’s younger sister who is in love with her fiancé; and Penelope Hayes, a member of the nouveau riche who will stop at nothing to win Henry’s affections. As Elizabeth and Henry’s wedding approaches, the spectacle unfolds in a wondrously grandiose scene, making for a fun, though not entirely unexpected dénouement. A delicious new twist along the Gossip Girl vein, readers will clamor for this sharp, smart drama of friends, lovers, lies and betrayal.
Pretties by Scott Westerfeld
Gorgeous. Popular. Perfect. Perfectly wrong.
Tally has finally become pretty. Now her looks are beyond perfect, her clothes are awesome, her boyfriend is totally hot, and she's completely popular. It's everything she's ever wanted.
But beneath all the fun -- the nonstop parties, the high-tech luxury, the total freedom -- is a nagging sense that something's wrong. Something important. Then a message from Tally's ugly past arrives. Reading it, Tally remembers what's wrong with pretty life, and the fun stops cold.
Now she has to choose between fighting to forget what she knows and fighting for her life -- because the authorities don't intend to let anyone with this information survive.

Little Women by Louisa May Alcott
Little Women is the heartwarming story of the March family that has thrilled generations of readers. It is the story of four sisters--Jo, Meg, Amy and Beth-- and of the courage, humor and ingenuity they display to survive poverty and the absence of their father during the Civil War.
Gone with the Wind by Margaret Mitchell
Sometimes only remembered for the epic motion picture and "Frankly ... I don't give a damn," Gone with the Wind was initially a compelling and entertaining novel. It was the sweeping story of tangled passions and the rare courage of a group of people in Atlanta during the time of Civil War that brought those cinematic scenes to life. The reason the movie became so popular was the strength of its characters--Scarlett O'Hara, Rhett Butler, and Ashley Wilkes--all created here by the deft hand of Margaret Mitchell, in this, her first novel.
Dirty Little Secrets by c.j. omololu
Everyone has secrets. Some are just bigger and dirtier than others.
For sixteen years, Lucy has kept her mother's hoarding a secret. She's had to -- nobody would understand the stacks of newspapers and mounds of garbage so high they touch the ceiling and the rotting smell that she's always worried would follow her out the house. After years of keeping people at a distance, she finally has a best friend and maybe even a boyfriend if she can play it right. As long as she can make them think she's normal.
When Lucy arrives home from a sleepover to find her mother dead under a stack of National Geographics, she starts to dial 911 in a panic, but pauses before she can connect. She barely notices the filth and trash anymore, but she knows the paramedics will. First the fire trucks, and then news cameras that will surely follow. No longer will they be remembered as the nice oncology nurse with the lovely children -- they'll turn into that garbage-hoarding freak family on Collier Avenue.
With a normal life finally within reach, Lucy has only minutes to make a critical decision. How far will she go to keep the family secrets safe?
I hope to read more than this but.... this is what I have to get to!

Book Review: Lyddie
Title: Lyddie
Series: No
Author(s): Katherine Paterson
Genre: Fiction
Publisher: Trumpet Club
Pages: 192
Challenges: 100+ Reading Challenge, Stand Alone Reading Challenge
Summary: When ten-year-old Lyddie and her younger brother are hired out as servants to help pay off their family farm's debts, Lyddie is determined to find a way to reunite her family. A story of determination and personal growth, Lyddie has already established itself as a classic.
An ALA Notable Book
My Thoughts: This book had a weird... writing style? It was slightly stuck in the past, and contained several references I was not familiar with. Other than that it was well written, and realistic. The book didn't seem to have a plot line. It just kind of went on with little problems, but nothing major. Overall my opinions are mixed about this, and that is why the review is so short because the book did't have an ending really it just kind of went on and on.
Overall Rating: 3/5

Book Review: Uglies
Title: Uglies
Series: It is a series... don't know name
Author(s): Scott Westerfeld
Genre: Science- Fiction
Publisher: Scholastic
Pages: 425
Challenges: 100+ Reading Challenge
Summary: Tally is about to turn sixteen, and she can't wait. Not for her license - for turning pretty. In Tally's world, your sixteenth birthday brings an operation that turns you from a repellent ugly into a stunningly attractive pretty and catapults you into a high-tech paradise where your only job is to have a really great time. In just a few weeks Tally will be there.
But Tally's new friend Shay isn't sure she wants to be pretty. She'd rather risk life on the outside. When Shay runs away, Tally learns about a whole new side of the pretty world - and it isn't very pretty. The authorities offer Tally the worst choice she can imagine: find her friend and turn her in, or never turn pretty at all. The choice Tally makes changes her world forever.
My Thoughts: I really enjoyed Scott Westerfeld's book, written in third person, and since it was a Science Fiction book(which I don't read much of) I really enjoyed it. The characters that were "Uglies" had many different sides that lead to a great emotional story, while the "Pretties" were one dimensional robot type characters which is explains a certain thing I can't name. I loved how, despite the fact it was in third person, the author wrote out Tally's mixed feelings. The author also did a great job in describing everything just enough.
It was a really great book, and I hope to grab the next book Pretties soon!

Wannabe Writers
Where I am in the writing process: I didn't write this week because I jumped from sports camp to sports camp, but I did plan out like a gazillion different scenes.
My current problem: I am just in need of motivation. I have it all in my head but I'm having problems putting it down on paper.
This week's question: Do you carry a writing journal around? Do you believe jotting down the ideas as they come is the best way? I mean if I don't get it all out now will it be lost forever?
Answer: I think you should but I don't all the time. So, I often forget many ides.
Sorry short post watching movie soon.

Awards!
How thrilling it is, in the midst of Bloggiesta activities, to open an e-mail message and discover an award!
This one is exciting to me, too, because it’s gorgeous and an honor. It is the Bodacious Blogging Book Reviewers Award, and it comes to me from Curl up and Read! Here’s how this one works:
If you are given this award you must first accept it by leaving a comment on the post you were nominated on. Then copy and paste the post and add it to your own blog. Make a list of the last 5 books you read and pass the award on to 5 other bloggers (no backsies!). Please also identify the blog from which you got the award and don’t forget to tell your picks that they have a blog award!
The last five books I read are:
3. Marked by P.C. Cast and Kristen Cast
5. Rules of Attraction by Simone Elkeles
I pass this onto:
3. Sarah Eni
